The Pueblo Dam connection is the starting point for SDS. Upgrades to the North Outlet Works at the dam will allow Colorado Springs, Pueblo West, Security and Fountain to draw water from Pueblo Reservoir.
Construction of the connection was successfully completed and tested in the summer of 2012. ASI Constructors, a Pueblo West-based contractor, was the prime contractor.
To build the connection, water flowing from the dam to the river was suspended in that area and diverted through other areas of the dam.
A round steel liner pipe, manufactured in Colorado Springs, was inserted into the existing square tunnel that channels water from the reservoir to the Arkansas River.
A 0.3 mile segment of pipe was installed that will allow Pueblo West to connect to SDS and will carry water for the other partners to the new Juniper Pump Station being built at Pueblo Lake State Park.
