Fountain Creek Vision Task Force Releases Strategic Plan

Both sets of recommendations were outlines at public meetings in Pueblo on November 12, 2008, and in Colorado Springs on November 13, 2008.

The meetings also included a display highlighting recommendations of the Fountain Creek Corridor Master Plan and its planned demonstration projects. The $600 million Master Plan was jointed funded by Colorado Springs Utilities and the Lower Arkansas Water Conservancy District.

Among the recommendations from the Fountain Creek Vision Task Force:

· Adopt uniform stormwater practices throughout the watershed.

· Encourage low-impact development that will control storm runoff.

· Develop watershed-wide regulations on runoff to reduce E. coli and selenium contamination in the creek.

· Develop water conservation programs in communities in the watershed.

· Build a network of recreational trails along the creek.

· Create a state-recognized watershed district responsible for implementing the recommendations of the task force.

Among the recommendations from the Army Corps of Engineers:

· Flood walls and channel work on Fountain Creek from the confluence with Monument Creek south and along U.S. Highway 24 from Interstate 25 to Eighth Street in Pueblo

· Stabilize banks where erosion threatens the U.S. Highway 85-87 bridge.
