Economic Benefits of the Southern Delivery System

Read the Center for Regional Advancement's recent study on the Economic Impacts of the Southern Delivery System on the Regional Economy of Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Surrounding Areas.

Construction work on the Southern Delivery System (SDS) will create opportunities for local businesses and contractors and infuse capital into local economies.

It is estimated that approximately $160 million of the construction cost will be expended on labor alone.

SDS Economic Benefits: Phase 1 Construction

Construction costs -- $550 million (in 2009 dollars)
Portion spent on labor -- $160 million (in 2009 dollars)
Average employment (2010-2016) -- 380 workers
Peak employment (2014) -- 700 workers

Facilities to be constructed in El Paso County during Phase 1 of the project will include:

Approximately 35 miles of 66- to 72-inch-diameter raw-water pipeline;
Two water pump stations;
A water treatment plant and treated-water conveyance facilities; and
Power-supply facilities.

Facilities to be constructed in Pueblo County during Phase 1 of the project will include:

A new connection to Pueblo Dam;
Approximately 18 miles of 66-inch-diameter untreated-water pipeline;
A water pump station; and
Power-supply facilities.
