Because of where we’re located, getting water
to Colorado Springs isn’t easy. We are one of the only Front
Range communities not located on a river. Fortunately for us, earlier
generations stepped up many times to meet the challenge of providing
the water our city needs to maintain a healthy economic and great
quality of life.
The result is a complex system of 25 reservoir and dams, 200 miles
of pipes and four major pump stations stretching across nine counties
on both sides of the Continental Divide that provides some of the
finest drinking water in the world.
Tour our water system.
Today, we face two issues:
|
Although we own the rights to the water we need
for our future, we need a way to get it to Colorado Springs.
SDS will do that. |
| • |
Our water system is aging. Parts of it are more than 50 years
old. We need more redundancy to ensure an uninterrupted supply
of water if parts of our existing system need to be taken out
of service for maintenance or repair. |
